Letter from the Director

October 2017

Many around the US are preparing their front yards with fall decorations and anticipating scores of costumed critters patrolling the sidewalks within a few days, declaring an offer of a “Trick or Treat.” I’m hedging my bets and plan to have lots of treats ready.

Here’s an offer from Team PHenomenal Hope. There’s no candy or tricks.

Help fund our organization with your tax-deductible contributions, and in return, we will put every mile, day, and dollar we have into creating the best PH organization possible.

Over the past year, we have worked to strengthen our racing and fundraising team, and to evolve our patient services and awareness programs. I can say with pride that we are making a difference in the patient community.

This fall we led the charge to build a coalition of PH groups that raised and distributed emergency funds. These finds went directly to those with PH who were hit by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. We have approved over 60 grants for financial aid that went to members of the PH community. No overhead. No gimmicks. Just emergency help to as many people as we could send it to, as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, our global team of over 100 athletes volunteered in the name of raising awareness of pulmonary hypertension, racking up over 7,400 miles raced in 2017 across four continents. Athletes and our event activities have fundraised over $78,000. $78,000! That money will go towards our PHenomenal Impact Fund for PH Research.

Many of our athletes – over three dozen – have also teamed up with individual PH patients, racing in the patient’s name and keeping them in their hearts as they cross the finish line. These #LetMeBeYourLungs pairs work to inspire one another in their races to beat PH, and we feature a new pair monthly on our website’s homepage.

Our global teams put forty athletes across the finish line, each racing to raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension and help their local PH communities in culturally appropriate ways. We support them with funds, marketing assistance, and team resources to help them grow and stabilize.

We improved our platform to amplify patient voices and share the life stories of those living with PH. Our web visits and social media engagements continue to see steady, performant growth and serve as channels through which we can broadcast PH Stories of Hope.

Won’t you join us? You can by making a donation that is meaningful to you. Donations will help us operate in the following programs:
– #LetMeBeYourLungs
– Unmet Patient Impact Fund
– PHenomenal Impact Fund for PH Research
– Amplifying Patient Voices
– International Team Development

Each of these is strategically designed to raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension, improve the quality of life for those living with it, and continue to work alongside patients through innovative means to meet their current and future needs.

Please give today (http://teamph.org/give). Be a partner by donating. Join the Platinum Circle at $15,000 and above, or start with the Nickel Circle by donating up to $100.
